The Ubuntu approach

Care for your space.
Room to flourish.

Led by Katherine García, Ubuntu brings 4 years of cleaning experience, including subcontracting, to homes and workplaces across Brisbane and the Capalaba area.

Caring for your surroundings is one way of caring for yourself. Research on home, attention, time and habits informs how we listen and plan your clean. Read the evidence and its limits [1–4] ↗

A fresh space can feel like renewed energy: letting go, breathing easier and welcoming a new beginning. We respect that personal meaning and bring it to life through practical care.

To us, room to flourish means more space for rest, relationships and the goals that matter to you.

The thinking behind the care

01 / THE EXPERIENCE OF HOME

How does home feel to you?

In an observational study of 60 spouses in dual-income households, women who used more stressful home descriptions had less favourable daily mood and cortisol patterns. Descriptions included clutter and unfinished work.

Our approach: ask which spaces feel most in need of attention, rather than assume every home has the same priorities.

Study details & what it does not establish

The study examined home-tour language, mood and cortisol over three weekdays. Association does not establish cause: it did not show that cleaning lowers cortisol or treats stress, and the findings do not apply identically to everyone.

Saxbe, D. E. & Repetti, R. (2010). No Place Like Home: Home Tours Correlate With Daily Patterns of Mood and Cortisol. Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 36(1), 71–81.

02 / VISUAL ATTENTION

What draws your attention?

A laboratory neuroscience study found that simultaneously presented visual stimuli compete for representation in the brain. Perceptual grouping and directed attention affected that competition.

Our approach: care for agreed surfaces and leave them visually settled. Extending these findings to a lived-in home is our practical interpretation.

Study details & what it does not establish

This was an experiment using controlled visual displays and brain imaging. It did not compare clean and dirty homes, test a cleaning service or establish that cleaning improves productivity or concentration.

03 / TIME & WELLBEING

Make room for your time.

Surveys linked spending on time-saving services with greater life satisfaction. In a field experiment, working adults reported greater happiness after a time-saving purchase than after a material purchase.

Our approach: take agreed cleaning tasks off your list, leaving you to decide how to use the time.

Study details & what it does not establish

The research included surveys across four countries and a short-term experiment. It supports the value of time-saving purchases in those settings; it does not guarantee lasting happiness or a particular outcome from hiring Ubuntu.

Whillans, A. V., Dunn, E. W., Smeets, P., Bekkers, R. & Norton, M. I. (2017). Buying time promotes happiness. PNAS, 114(32), 8523–8527.

04 / HABITS & ROUTINES

Small actions. A familiar rhythm.

Volunteers repeated a chosen eating, drinking or activity behaviour in the same daily context for 12 weeks. Repetition was associated with increasing automaticity, with substantial variation between individuals.

Our approach: agree on familiar priorities and a service rhythm. For your own routines, try linking a small action to an existing daily cue.

Study details & what it does not establish

The study measured self-reported automaticity. It did not test household cleaning or show that booking a cleaner creates habits. There is no universal deadline for habit formation.

05 / THE PRACTICAL FOUNDATION

Cleanliness starts with cleaning.

CDC guidance explains that cleaning with soap or detergent removes dirt and most harmful germs from surfaces. Cleaning and disinfecting are different processes; products and methods must suit the surface and their labelled use.

Read CDC cleaning guidance ↗

Our philosophy brings practical cleaning together with personal meaning. A feeling of renewed energy, spiritual balance or a fresh start is an individual experience, not a scientific outcome we promise. These studies inform our thinking; none evaluated Ubuntu’s services. Good to know

A few helpful details.

Can I request extras?

Yes. Let us know if you need oven cleaning, cupboard interiors, windows, a patio or a balcony. Extras and access requirements are agreed as part of your quote.

How is my quote prepared?

Use our instant calculator for general, spring and bond cleaning. The minimum covers up to 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom, kitchen, living and dining areas. Larger homes and selected extras add to the total. Special conditions and unpriced extras require review before confirmation.

Do you offer recurring services?

Weekly and fortnightly home cleaning can be requested through the calculator, subject to availability. Contact us for other schedules. We use a consistent plan to keep the agreed tasks clear; read how habit research informs this approach [4].

What does “feel the calm” mean?

It expresses the experience we hope to create: a cared-for space and room for your own rhythm. Our research notes explain the findings and their limits. The studies did not evaluate Ubuntu, and our cleaning is not a mental-health treatment. Renewal or spiritual meaning is personal, rather than a measured service outcome.

Does a quote request confirm my booking?

No. Your booking is confirmed separately after availability, scope, price and access arrangements have been agreed.

Where can I read customer feedback?

Visit our existing Google listing and customer reviews ↗.

How are my details and photos used?

Ubuntu uses your name, contact details, address, home information and current photos to assess and respond to your request and prepare the service. Birthday is optional and collects only day and month. Quote photos are restricted to Ubuntu’s administrator; relevant home instructions can be shared with your assigned cleaner. Photos are not published or used for marketing through this form. Service emails are optional and separate from marketing.
